Baking FAQs
What is the secret to good muffins?
- use high quality ingredients that are not expired. As silly as that sounds to suggest to use non-expired ingredients, certain baking ingredients, such as baking soda and powder, which aren’t used very often can mistakingly become expired while sitting in your pantry!
- read recipe instructions before beginning. Many times there are tips within a recipe card, don’t skip over those!
- mix dry ingredients thoroughly in a bowl before adding them to wet ingredients
- use room temperature ingredients; eggs, milk and butter
- don’t over mix wet and dry ingredients
- prepare your muffin tins or loaf pan properly; vegetable spray, vegetable shortening sprinkled with all-purpose four, store bought cupcake liners, or parchment paper will help ensure that your muffins and breads come out beautifully
- don’t over fill your pans
- half way through the suggested baking time, rotate your muffin tin or loaf pan in your oven to ensure even baking
- let muffins and breads cool before removing them from the tins or pans
How do you keep muffins from sticking?
Muffins and breads can easily become stuck to the bottom of a muffin tin or loaf pan, even if you are using a non-stick pan. It’s important to properly prepare your bakeware before filling with the muffin or bread mix.
Ways to line muffin tins and loaf pans:
- spray each tin with vegetable spray
- using a paper towel, spread vegetable shortening generously in each tin, sprinkle with all-purpose flour and then shake out excess flour
- use store bought cupcake liners. They come in many different styles, colors and designs!
- cut parchment paper to fit inside the loaf pan and place inside. Pour batter oven the parchment paper and bake
How to store muffins and breads?
Place muffins and breads in a bread storage container or a Ziplock bag and store in a cool space in your kitchen. You can also wrap the pans with plastic wrap and store. Many muffins and breads can be preserved longer by being stored in the refrigerator.
