Laundry Room Makeover with Wallpaper | Before & After

Laundry room makeover! A small space transformed to a beautiful and functional laundry room with wall paper and open shelving!

As many of you know, our 1886 Victorian home was struck by lighting and caught fire and have been following along as we slowly but surly rebuild the home and complete one room at a time! Most days it feels like the to-do list is never ending {because in reality it is! ugh!}, but lately we’ve been making some great progress and it’s feeling good on the ol’ soul.

Once we were able to move back in to our home, things were so busy and so many things needing our attention…so much that the poor old laundry room went totally neglected – even after being fully gutted! Truth be told, it was a space that I just put things that I had no idea where to put because I could shut the doors and walk away. Never mind the fact that you literally could not see the dryer controls. It was a touch and feel and hope you would hit the right buttons.

Small Laundry Room Before & After

Finally I had had enough. I just couldn’t take it anymore. So in a last ditch “heck with it” effort, I ordered five different wallpapers that I had been eyeing for a long time! Thanks to all of you Facebook followers for helping me narrow down the list from 16!

Oddly, I ended up choosing a wallpaper that I hadn’t included in the original 16! When I start really thinking about the flow of the space – with the laundry room being nestled between the sunroom and kitchen, I felt that the colors needed to blend more. The kitchen is all green cabinetry {I promise to have an update about that “soon”…but we are still working on it!} and the sunroom is very cheery and yellow-ish. So, this floral wallpaper felt to fit the part the best!

I really didn’t have a plan in mind other than add as much storage as possible! We incorporated a kitchen cabinet from house #3 in North Carolinas {before we renovated that kitchen! … we are building supply hoarders!!} and the handles on it were actually left over from house #1 in Georgia, so the sentimental guppy that I am, had to reuse them! It kind of warms my heart that we now have pieces of so many houses incorporated into house #4 in Wisconsin!

Let Me Show You The Process!

In this video I share the before and after of our small laundry room makeover! The renovation supplies cost less than $50! It’s amazing what peel and stick wallpaper can do! A once dreaded space is now one of my favorite rooms in our 1886 Victorian home!

Applying the wallpaper was actually super easy! I took my time to measure and mark straight lines that the edge of the paper lined up next to. I used painters tape to lightly secure it to the wall as I carefully and slowly removed the paper backing and adhered the sticky side of the wallpaper to the walls. Using a snap blade box cutter, I trimmed it appropriately and cut out the outlets. If I accidentally messed up a little bit, the paper easily came off of the wall and was able to be repositioned. The process was easy peasy and I would definitely recommend trying this out at your own home!

The floral peel and stick wallpaper is a cheery, unexpected surprise when you open the double doors that lead to my tiny laundry room. Every inch has been maximized for storage capacity, all while being stylish and functional! I now no longer dread opening those doors, being knocked over with mess and mounds of never ending laundry!

I absolutely love love love how it turned out! It’s so cheery and bright and so functional all at the same time! The beefed up open shelving allows for easy access to the most used items, while the cabinet helps hide all of the not so pretty, not as often used items!

The space is so much more accessible and welcoming! Just what I needed!

And because I like real life…let’s just show you how much I realllllly do love this laundry room, double chin and all! {my hubby and I were dying laughing trying to take photos of me in the laundry room…gahhh!!! Why do photos with people do so much better than without?}

I mean, doing laundry is already so.much.fun! ? ? Can’t you tell?!?

Oh well, 14 years married and we are still having fun together…so that’s really all that counts!

  1. Gosh, I love that wallpaper. Laundry rooms can be so difficult to decorate but I believe it’s important that we have a nice one – we spend enough time there. I love this makeover. Also love that you added the storage. Great job.

  2. You did such a great job on this laundry room! I love the paper and the color you used on the cabinet and shelves. The lint catcher is great for the side of the dryer. Nice work!!
