House Update #7: Silver Spoon

Oh happy day!
I literally squealed when one of the guys ripping out my house gave me this silver spoon they found inside of my wall!! Like I could almost cry with excitement! Obviously it takes a certain kind of person to want to buy a 133 year old house (I’m soooo that person!) and when all of the history of it is being ripped out and thrown into the dumpster because of a lightning strike… it’s just sad and depressing. … and then there are moments like this that help ease the sadness!!

I absolutely plan to frame this spoon in a shadow box and hang it in my kitchen when we can live there again!

My curiosity got the best of me, so I spent more hours than I would like to admit researching this spoon and then trying to find when it was made. When I finally came across it, I was so excited!

But now the real mystery remains…who did this spoon belong to?

I have done extensive research about the house and all of it’s past owners. Because the spoon’s manufacture year was 1933, I’m guessing it has to belong to one of the following owners based on the years that they purchased the house. I don’t believe that it would have been a wedding gift to anyone because in 1933 both of these owners had already had kids – and based off of principals of 1933, I’d just assume they were married prior to having kids. So…possibly it was purchased/given for another special occasion or just for fun!

I would be ecstatic to find out the true owner, but for now, I’m just so happy to have figured this much out!

More Demo Work

Aside from the cool find, the demo work has been going full steam ahead.

I took this before photo after the fire when I was able to go inside (along with more HERE). You can see the water damage all over the floor, in the second photo, it is what it looks like now, post demo. It’s just absolutely mind blowing to me!

More until next time!
