Have you ever found a piece of furniture on the side of the road or at a thrift store and just felt that you “HAD” to save it?

That is me, every time I set foot into a thrift store, or when I’m simply driving down the road and find old dressers and nightstands being discarded!

I have a bit of a hoarding problem with furniture.

But that’s ok – I love to turn old, ugly, ruined things into something beautiful and give it new life!

That’s where this $9 round drum table comes in.

I bought it at my local Habitat for Humanity Restore – along with another antique table for $6 {that I’ll be making over soon!}

Before

Do you recall the thrift store table I told you about in my latest Coffee Chat?

The water damaged, ugly as sin, table that I bought for $9 buckaroos!

The table that had seen better days.

The table that was begging for a second change on life…

Circle Drum Table Makeover - Before & After

I brought this baby home and got busy dreaming up how I would make it over with my favorite chalk paint; Dixie Belle!

While I am a brand ambassador for Dixie Belle, I have been using their products for years making over furniture in my home {like this dining room hutch, this side table and this serving tray} – and long before ever becoming an ambassador. See why I love Dixie Belle here!

How To Paint and Add Transfers to Furniture

To get this painting party started, let’s go over the supplies I used!

Let’s Paint Together!

Step 1: This is the most important step in painting furniture. You need to start with a squeaky clean surface before applying paint. I swear by this cleaner and use it on every piece I paint. For a more detailed tutorial, see this post.

Step 2: Paint the table top by blending Lemonade and Buttercream chalk paint using the “wet method”.

Step 3: Paint the table base in Palmetto chalk paint. Let dry

Step 4: Paint Sawmill Gravy chalk paint over top of the dried Palmetto paint. Let dry

Step 5: Gently sand to distress the table base so that the Palmetto shows through the Sawmill Gravy. Sealing chalk paint is optional. I did not on this piece. However, if you’d like to see how to, read this post.

Optional: change the color of the hardware using Rub ‘n Buff!

Dixie Belle Bells and Whistles Magnolia Garden Transfer

I was so excited to try out this Magnolia Garden transfer that I could hardly wait for the paint to dry to start applying the designs!

Step 6: Apply the Magnolia Garden transfers to the table top. If you’d rather not use a transfer, you can simply use a stencil like I did here or use scrapbook paper and Mod Podge to create any design/pattern you’d like!

I love how it turned out! It’s exactly how I imagined it would look! Now the hard part is figuring out which room to put it in in my house! I want it in every room!

Isn’t it amazing what a a little bit of chalk paint and a transfer can do?!?!

I seriously cannot believe how much I love this Belles and Whistle Magnolia Garden transfer!
