How to Remove Hard Water Stains and Buildup on Faucet Fixtures
Do you have hard water stains and buildup on your faucet fixtures? I do, and it really looks terrible. Today I’m going to share with you how I remove this buildup without damaging my beautiful Signature Hardware faucets.
If your home is like mine, you may have hard water, which causes that yucky, white, scaly build up on your plumbing fixtures. It seems to build up so quickly and is extremely hard to remove.
I’ve always been cautious with the cleaners that I use in my home, especially since becoming a mom. In the past, I have tried many different methods to removing the hard water buildup, such as;
- vinegar
- dish soap
- bathroom scrub bubble cleaners
- baking soda
- various green cleaner brand products
All of which never ended in the results that I wanted. That is where Shaklee Scour Off Paste comes in to play. Back in 2014, I was introduced to these non-toxic, all-natural, biodegradable cleaners that actually work! I’ve been using them since and love them!

p.s. rubber gloves are not necessary to use Scour Off. I only had them on because right before this I was cleaning fish tanks and toilets! … the life of a mom!
Back to the scaly, white build up on the faucet spout. This is my kid’s bathroom sink. We installed two Signature Hardware brushed brass fixtures over their Kohler vessel sink. Our house water is super hard, despite the fact that we have a water softener. The build up is terrible (I guess some could say I’m a terrible housewife who doesn’t clean often enough, lol). But for now, we’re just going to place all blame on the water, and not me. haha!
Products Used:
- Shaklee Scour Off
- Kitchen sponge, I just used an old kitchen sponge, cut in half, that I wash in the washing machine over and over again
- Water
How to easily remove hard water buildup
Step 1: Apply Scour Off Paste to a sponge
Step 2: Gently scrub the sponge around the rib of the faucet
Step 3: Rinse with water and remove all paste cleaner
Step 4: Dry faucet fixture with a towel
Repeat all of these steps if necessary. Sometimes it’s hard to tell if you were successful at removing all of the hard water buildup until you wipe it dry. So, it may be necessary to repeat the cleaning process. For my faucet, it did take 3 rounds of cleaning to get all of the hard water spots removed – which in total, was only about 5 minutes.
More ways to use Scour Off Paste for cleaning

In all honesty, I have never found another product that compares to Scour Off…nor have I found a product that is so versatile at cleaning so well! I hope that some of these ways I show below are helpful and encouraging to you!!
