Whenever I’m supposed to be cleaning, I find myself doing exactly the opposite! Rather than straightening up, putting things back where they belong and purging the things we no longer need, I ALWAYS start in on a thousand other tasks that only create more mess and make my life more hectic.

As one of my best friends likes to say, “I’m addicted to my own adrenaline”. The more stress I can put on myself to hurry up and get the darn task done, the better I’ll be at it! I have no idea what’s wrong with me and why I like to induce this kind of stress…but I do! ha!

In my frenzy of getting my house cleaned up for my favorite family in the world to come visit from Ohio, I found myself hanging random decor on closet walls, going to our storage unit and bringing over things that had once hung in our house before the fire, and running to Walmart to buy craft supplies of things I really didn’t need.

However, I’m so glad that I did all of those things that were unnecessary, because I’m so in love with the end result! …and best of all, I did get my house cleaned up!

One of my projects was to hang a wooden shelf my husband made me at our very first house in Georgia. We hung really thick crown molding in that house and with some of the leftovers he built me a gorgeous shelf. I remember being like “what???? you made this?!?!?” when he gave it to me. We were 23 years old, renovating our first house (that actually didn’t need it…but we are who we are!) and being blown away that he knew how to do something so amazing! That’s really where my love of woodworking/building things came in!

I’ve found a space for this shelf in every home since then…it’s now hung in 4 of our homes and reminds me of where we’ve come in our house journey over these past 14 years!

Anyway, so I hung the shelf over our bed and decorated it with a wooden name sign I made several years ago. As I looked around my house for my faux plants to go on one side of the sign, I quickly realized that they were all being used (I have a plant obsession I think) in other areas of my home.

So…what’s a gal to do?

Yep, you guessed it!

Quickly run to Walmart at 9:30pm at night and grab supplies to make a little arrangement!

As always…I like to zoom out so you can get a full scan of things. Don’t ever be fooled by the photos that you see online or in magazines. There’s usually “life” happening behind the scenes!

When I zoom out you can see that the wooden window trim is still needed, a messy nightstand and a photo bombing cat! HA! That’s real life at my house friends! Nothing is ever perfect … and that’s OK!

In my past life I would have cringed seeing a cat on a bed … so good thing this little one is cute!
