I am participating in a monthly DIY blogger challenge for 2020 and our first challenge is upcycling an item that is laying around your home or that you found at a thrift store. Because I don’t have much just “laying around” anymore because of the house fire I decided to hit up one of my favorite local thrift stores and see what I could come up with.

Since the holidays weren’t that long ago, the cookie tin section is pretty abundant right now! I have to admit, I love repurposing old cookie tins into functional items! Like this Three Tier Farmhouse Tray that I made live for hundreds of viewers on HomeTalk a few years ago.

I found a large metal cookie tin and knew immediately that it would make a cute side table farmhouse tray. I bought it for $2.00, brought it home, and got to work right away!

Supplies Needed:

Start at the back of the tin can on the seam and apply a thin line of hot glue.

P.S. I saved the lid to this tin can and use it for making cardboard wreath forms, like for this Book Page Wreath.

Begin wrapping the jute around the tin can along the hot glue line, being extra careful not to burn your fingers. Leave a little excess tail at the very beginning so you can tuck and hide that piece once you get to the 2nd row and so forth.

Once each row is complete, continue on right under the row right before it

Continue all of the way down until the jute has been wrapped around the entire tin can. Hot glue the end of the jute and tuck away if possible.

And that is it! I mean, it doesn’t get any easier than this! Such an easy project! Do you love it? Will you make one for yourself?

I styled my tin jute tray with my DIY Wood Bead Garland with Tassels and a pretty plant that I had on hand.

What a great way to use up those old tins! I have a hard time getting rid of them, but they just sit on the shelves collecting dust. I will have to get out my glue gun and twine!
