Why Repurpose a Keurig K Cup Holder?

Years ago, we ditched our Keurig coffee maker for a fancy dancy Breville Orale Touch espresso machine. My husband had been traveling internationally for work and totally fell in love with the rich, flavorful espressos he was drinking in little cafés all over Europe — and honestly, after tasting the real stuff, we never looked back. {How To Make An Americano Coffee in Italy}

But recently, when Hometalk challenged me to come up with a creative way to repurpose a Keurig K Cup holder, I was totally on board. I didn’t have one on hand anymore, so I stopped by my local thrift store and found one for just $4. Not bad for a project base!

At first glance, it might seem like a pretty specific kitchen accessory — but once I started thinking outside the coffee pod, I realized how many possibilities there really are. These little racks are sturdy, compact, spin smoothly, and are already designed to organize small items. It’s like they were meant to be upcycled.

The best part? Repurposing it was super simple. No power tools, no complicated steps — just a few supplies I already had and a little creative thinking. Whether you’ve moved on from your Keurig too, or spot one of these holders at a thrift store, these ideas will give it a totally new purpose.

That plain little pod rack may not look like much now, but it didn’t take long to completely change its purpose. With just a few simple supplies and a little creativity, I turned this basic Keurig holder into something both useful and fun!

Let me show you exactly how I repurposed it — starting with one of my favorites: a DIY craft supply organizer.

1. DIY Craft Supply Organizer

This was the first idea that came to mind — and I instantly knew it would work. It’s such a simple way to keep craft supplies like crayons, scissors, and glue sticks neat and easy to grab. Honestly, I wish I had thought of this years ago when my kids spent hours at their little art table. It would’ve been perfect for keeping everything organized (and maybe even keeping the mess to a minimum!). If you’ve got young kids, this would be such a great addition to their craft space.

What I Used

  • Empty K Cup pod holder (thrifted for $4!)
  • Mini plastic condiment cups (or clean, empty pods with lids removed)
  • Craft supplies — paper clips, push pins, markers, scissors, glue sticks, washi tape, etc.

How To Repurpose It

  • Place an empty Keurig coffee container into each slot of the pod holder
  • Sort supplies by category — pens in one, glue in another, etc
  • Optional: label the cups or decorate them for extra cuteness
  • Place it on your desk or shelf and give it a spin whenever you need something!

2. Faux Plant Display

I’ll admit — this idea was purely decorative, but once I saw it come together, I totally fell in love with it. I’ve love incorporating greenery into my home, and this gave me the perfect excuse to play around without needing actual soil or watering schedules. The little pods were just the right size for popping in a few sprigs of faux greenery and bright florals.

It turned out so cute and cheerful — a fun little display that would work great on a kitchen counter, office desk, or even a bathroom shelf for a touch of nature (without the maintenance).

What I Used

  • A spinning Keurig K-Cup pod holder
  • A mix of faux greenery stems and small florals
  • Wire cutters or scissors (for trimming stems)
  • Optional: small pieces of floral foam or tape to help anchor the stems inside the pods

How to Repurpose It

  1. Trim your faux stems down to a length that fits easily into the K-Cup space
  2. Insert each stem into an empty K-Cup pod — you can reuse old pods or simply tuck them directly into the wire slots if your plant stems are sturdy.
  3. Adjust for fullness and balance, mixing greenery and floral elements to give the display some dimension and interest
  4. Optional: If you want the stems to stay firmly in place, add a little floral foam or tape inside each pod to hold them more securely

What I Used:

  • A thrifted Keurig K-Cup carousel
  • Empty K-Cup coffee containers
  • Earrings, bracelets, rings, hair ties, bobby pins, etc

How to Repurpose It:

  1. Wash out your empty K Cups and remove any remaining coffee grounds or filters
  2. Pop each cup back into the pod holder
  3. Sort your accessories into categories — earrings in one, hair ties in another, bobby pins, rings, etc.
  4. Place it somewhere handy like a vanity, desk, or bathroom shelf and spin for easy access!
