Why I LOVE December 17th
December 17th is one of my absolute favorite days of the year because it’s the heart of our wedding anniversary story — filled with love, memories, and some of the biggest milestones in our relationship.
The Proposal
On December 17, 2004, Clayton (aka Lover Boy) got down on one knee and asked me to marry him — a moment that became the start of our wedding anniversary story. Of course, I said yes! It was the perfect, simple, and heartfelt romantic proposal, and one I’ll never forget.
At the time, we were both juniors in college. Clayton was working full-time as a supervisor at UPS, working the night shift, and attending school during the day. Life was busy, but so exciting.

(Fun side note: This was right before he accepted the supervisor position, because in that role, facial hair and earrings weren’t allowed — and at the time, he still had both! I even went with him on his 18th birthday to get his cartilage pierced!)

Our Wedding Day
On December 17, 2006, exactly two years to the date of his proposal (our parents wouldn’t let us get married any sooner because we were too young), we stood together at the altar and said “I do” in a beautiful wedding ceremony at Bethany Lutheran Church in Batavia, Illinois. My uncle officiated the ceremony, making it even more special.

We spent the day surrounded by family, friends, and so much love. Our wedding photos capture some of my favorite moments — from the quiet, emotional ones to the silly ones where Clayton couldn’t resist picking on me (because of course I probably started it!).

Here are just a few of my favorite photos from our wedding day:

Typical LB, always picking on me!! (but I suppose I caused it this time!)
Our First Dance Song
Our first dance song still holds a special place in my heart. It fits us perfectly, and every time I hear it, I’m reminded of how lucky I am to have Clayton by my side.

Our Anniversaries
Many years have passed since we said “I do” in 2006. Fortunately we’ve been able to share an incredible journey together with so many major life moments!
- Moving 1,000 miles away from home
- Welcoming our three beautiful children
- Buying four homes
- Traveling to 48 states and 9 countries together
Through it all, Clayton has always been my rock. He supports me, stands by my side, and encourages me every step of the way. We truly make a great team, and I couldn’t imagine life without him.
