Kid Art – Eric Carle Style
My kids and I LOVE art projects. We do some sort of coloring, painting, etc daily. Yesterday while browsing some of my favorite sites I came across this Preschool craft that created a tree on paper out of old magazines.
Here’s our version!
First I ripped out pages of my Better Home & Garden magazine that had images of them that were of fall colors. Then I cut them into leaf shapes – vary them in sizes. I found a whole page that had an image that would do great for a tree so I cut that out making the trunk and limbs.

Then Little Finch got to work with the glue stick!
Laughing Coyote was content with the water colors!
The leaves…Laughing Coyote crinkled them for us! 🙂
Then he came to help with the glue!
Little Finch decided she wanted some falling off of the tree.
We hung this project on the inside of our front door…one of my most favorite places to show off the kids artwork! I just LOVE this piece. I am planning on getting it laminated and using it every year.
Give this a try in your spare time with your kids. It’s virtually free because most likely you will have these supplies already on hand.

Stephanie—home cook, DIY addict, seasonal decor fanatic, and proud chicken wrangler living in a Victorian house that’s always a project. Whether I’m cooking with garden-fresh ingredients, herding mischievous chickens, or tackling another DIY, I’m here to share the fun (and chaos).
Thanks for commenting on my blog! I love that you do art projects with your kids! I’ll need to remember that as soon as my 7 month old gets a little older. 😉
Your kiddos are adorable! And I love the art project. I’m tucking all these great ideas away for when my daughter gets a bit bigger.
Thank you so much! That’s what I do too!! My daughter tends to like to do EVERYTHING that I do…for her 3rd birthday she wanted a sewing machine…so she got one! Yesterday she and I bought Martha Stewart paper punches – guess who is using them? Her! 🙂 Have fun!!
Such a great idea. We were gifted The Grouchy Ladybug. Such a funny book! Have you read it? I highly recommend it for a good laugh. Anyways, what a fun craft idea. Thanks for stopping by!
