We are preparing to put our house up on the market. I’ve been busting my hiney (well, OK maybe I’m exaggerating – I haven’t been working that hard) to get it “show ready”. So in an effort to do that my car literally took me captive and drove me to Hobby Lobby! I have a seriously pretty sweet car, I know! As I perused the isles I came across a metal hanging art thing-a-ma-bob (what are these things called anyway??) It was on clearance for $8.50 and I liked the design of it so I had to buy it!
However….I am not a fan of them hanging on the wall if they are not oddly shaped like this, the one above my deck doors (ignore these horrible photos please!
Anyway, I had an idea so today I ran to Home Depot and bought 4- 2x1s and cut them on the circular saw just a little longer than the metal thing.
Really sorry that I forgot to take a picture of the back and how I secured them. I had some GIANT contractor paint stirring sticks from Home Depot that I cut to fit vertically and then predrilled and screwed wood screws into each piece of wood to the paint stick (I am not really a fan of wood glue, etc.) I wanted it to be secure and not some piece of crap I created.
Next I stained it with Minwax Dark Walnut stain.
I let my little man paint the metal thingy with some cream colored paint I had in the garage. Isn’t he just the cutest??
Then my sweet neighbor got in on the painting action! My kids literally have a fan club for this guy! He was such a great helper!
After the kiddos finished painting I used some old sandpaper and roughed it up a bit. I laid it on the wood and screwed it on.
Ta Da!! I love my Iron Wall Decor Makeover!!!
Whatcha think? I really like it!
Now I just have to figured out which wall I want to hang it on! 🙂
Remember there’s the Pin It button if you like this!

You should post a picture after you figure out where you want it to go in the house! I am curious to know! 🙂
Steph, it turned out beautiful. I liked it before, but I love it now. I agree with Rebecca – love to see it up once you decide where it’s going to go. (lol- I know we’re making more work for you, he he)
haha that’s OK!!!
