How To Turn An Old Window Into Outdoor Garden Decor

Are you looking for ways to spruce up your boring wood fence in your yard?

Looking for ways to add some color and fun?

That’s exactly the situation I was in. We had finished fencing off a portion of our backyard, poured a stamped concrete pad, erected a beautiful pavilion, planted a huge variety of flowering plants…all in addition to our chicken coop and rabbit hutch.

The space was coming along, but, it felt boring. I wanted to spruce it up a little bit with some color.

We were getting ready to have about 40 people over at our house for a party and I was racking my brain for quick and easy ways to add decor.

I have a stack of old windows that I keep around for various projects and decided that I should take one of them and paint it a fun color and hang it on the inside of our fence.

So that’s exactly what I did! Let me show you how I did it.

Step 2: Clean window

Using a paper towel or an old rag, clean both window frame and glass

Step 3: Tape off glass

Using painter’s tape, tape the inside perimeter of the glass to ensure you don’t get paint on the glass

Step 4: Paint

I used Dixie Belle chalk mineral paint in the color “Barn Red”

Step 5: Remove tape and allow to dry

Remove the painter’s tape when the paint is still wet and then allow the paint to dry before hanging

Step 6: Hang

I hung my window on the inside of my fence with two wood screws. I hung an exterior grade boxwood wreath and added two metal decor pieces that I found at my local thrift store.
