Recipe Inspiration

Even though my kids are getting older, I still love making special themed foods for the holidays. With Valentine’s Day coming up, these heart-shaped pancakes were such an easy and cute surprise to add to breakfast.

Honestly, it worked out perfectly because my heart-shaped cookie cutter was already out after making these tie-dye heart cookies with royal icing and heart-shaped Valentine’s Day brownies. Turning regular pancakes into something festive took just a few extra minutes, but it made the morning feel extra special.

Use a Metal Cookie Cutter

For making pancakes in fun shapes, a metal cookie cutter works best. Metal holds its shape on the stovetop and won’t melt like plastic or silicone cutters can.

Place the cookie cutter directly in the pan so it’s ready to go once the pan is heated.

Spray the Cookie Cutter Before Adding Batter

Before pouring in the pancake batter, spray the inside of the cookie cutter well with cooking spray. This helps prevent sticking and makes it much easier to remove the cutter later.

The butter helps the pancake cook evenly and adds flavor.

Fill the Cookie Cutter With Pancake Batter

Spoon pancake batter into the center of the cookie cutter, filling it about three-quarters full. A slightly thicker batter works best so it stays inside the cutter and holds its shape.

Use the spoon to gently guide the batter into the edges of the heart.

Let the Pancake Cook Until Bubbles Form

Allow the pancake to cook until bubbles begin to form on the surface and the edges look set. This helps the pancake keep its shape when flipping.

Once the batter has set, carefully lift the cookie cutter straight up.

Flip and Finish Cooking

After removing the cookie cutter, flip the pancake and cook the second side until golden brown. Repeat the process with the remaining batter, re-spraying the cookie cutter as needed.

Serve the pancakes warm with your favorite toppings.
