Salzburg, Austria – And my love for Christopher Plummer

When I saw the news about Christopher Plummer I was so sad. Growing up “The Sound of Music” was one of my all-time favorite movies {and still is!} The song Christopher sings “Edelweiss” was hands down my favorite because I always thought he said “Hazel Eyes”…and I have hazel eyes, so I always think of that being “my song” ? haha! Edelweiss is actually a beautiful white flower, not eyes!

Fun fact: My husband also grew up “liking” and watching the “Sound Of Music”. As silly as it sounds, this simple fact was one of those “I know he’s for me” moments when we were super young! haha!

We took our family to visit Europe last Christmas and we visited some of the most beautiful places I have ever been! I have always intended to write a full series about our trip to Germany, Austria, and France last Christmas, detailing our whole travel itinerary…but the house stuff has gotten in the way! So for now, enjoy these photos of the gorgeous Austria in honor of Christopher Plummer. {Austria is where “The Sound of Music” was filmed!

On day 8 of our trip, we took the cable car to Zugspitze, Germany. It is the highest peak of the Wetterstein Mountains as well as the highest mountain in Germany. On a clear day you can see four countries!! Germany, Austria, Italy and Switzerland. With 360 panaroma views, it was one of the most incredible sights I have ever seen in my entire life. The frozen snow cascaded over top the mountains was a sight that is indescribable!

The Christmas markets in all of the countries were out of this world, but the ones in Austria had such an incredible vibe to them! I have never had so much fun in my life shopping for handmade goodies! I feel like out of the countries we went to, Austria is probably the least visited by tourists, so it made it that much more special and meaningful to me!

While we were in Salzburg, Austira, we also went to see Mozart’s birthplace! He was born in 1756 at “Hagenauer Haus” at No. 9 Getreidegasse in Salzburg. His home is now a museum and is one of the most visited museums in Austria.

We also ate at his favorite café, Café Tomaselli!

But back to Christopher Plummer! We didn’t have time to visit the grounds where “The Sound of Music” was filmed, which I am still sad about to this day…but that just means we have to go back! However, while we were there, I just kept singing “Edelweiss” over and over in my head…and maybe out loud to my family until they finally made {forced!} me stop! haha

So… for those of you who want to listen to Christopher’s majestic voice…here’s the song “Edelweiss”! … a song about my hazel eyes, hehe! ? {this clip is from YouTube, I do not own the rights to this video}

Happy singing my friends!!
