How to Make Cheesy Biscuits Step-by-Step

Combine All Ingredients to Make the Biscuit Dough

Begin by mixing all of the ingredients except the cheese in a large bowl until a soft, crumbly dough forms. Once everything is evenly combined, fold in the shredded cheddar and stir until the dough is fully coated with cheese.

Roll, Cut, and Shape the Biscuit Dough

Dust your countertop with flour, then roll the dough to about ½–¾ inch thickness. Press a biscuit cutter (or a large Mason jar ring) into the dough to create rounds, gathering and rerolling the scraps so you can cut as many biscuits as possible.

Bake the Biscuits Until Golden and Fluffy

Place the biscuit rounds on a parchment-lined baking sheet and bake until they rise and turn lightly golden on top. They should look fluffy with visible cheesy layers when they’re ready to come out of the oven.

And that’s it! Easy peasy! Really, these biscuits are so quick to make, which I love for busy Saturday mornings! …especially when I have a house full of kids who spent the night!

What to Serve With Cheesy Biscuits

I often turn these into quick breakfast sandwiches by cutting them in half and adding a cooked sausage patty. And if I’m making one for someone who wants “the works,” I’ll fry an egg and tuck that in too.

How to Store and Reheat Homemade Biscuits

  • Store: Let the biscuits cool completely, then place them in an airtight container or zip-top bag. They’ll stay fresh on the counter for 2–3 days or in the fridge for up to a week.
  • Freeze: Wrap each biscuit individually and place them in a freezer-safe bag. You can store them in the freezer for up to 3 months.
  • Reheat: When you’re ready to heat your biscuits, warm them in a 300°F oven for 5–7 minutes to bring back their soft, fluffy texture. Alternatively, for a quicker option, you can microwave for 10–15 seconds **just note they’ll be a little softer and less crisp on the outside.
