Black painted furniture is all the rage these days. But how do you know which black paint to choose? Do you want matte black furniture paint? Do you want satin black furniture paint? Which brand of paint should you use? The options are endless but I’m here to share with you my top tips and tricks for painting black furniture!

The Best Matte Black Furniture Paint

My hands-down all-time furniture paint is a chalk paint by Dixie Belle paint company. If you’re new here, I highly suggest checking out my post for why I choose Dixie Belle paint. When I first began painting furniture, I used leftover wall paint that I had laying around or opted for the easiest route, and bought spray paint. While both of these options worked, the process was a bit difficult because either of these paints were specifically designed for painting furniture. I learned about Dixie Belle chalk paint from my friend who had found the paint at a local antique store. Since then, I have been hooked and have been using it for many years with success!

My favorite matte black furniture paint is called Caviar by Dixie Belle. It has incredible coverage and dries quickly. It’s also very durable and you do not need to prep the furniture piece beforehand (like sanding or priming…of course you should always clean your wood furniture before painting). It also does not need to be sealed. I call that a win!

Satin Black Furniture Paint

To create a satin finish on your painted furniture, you can still use the same Caviar paint but add a sealer. This will change the look of your finished project and give it a satin appearance and feel. My favorite sealer for creating a finish look, which also happens to be waterproof (great for nightstands or end tables!) is Gator Hide. Check out this post to see how to apply Gator Hide.
