Ingredients
  

  • 1 c butter
  • 2 c sugar
  • 5 eggs
  • 1 tbs vanilla
  • 8 oz dates (1 package), cut in 1/3rds
  • 1 lb candy orange slices, (1 package) cut in 1/3rds
  • 2 c pecans, chopped
  • 3 1/2 oz coconut flakes, shredded
  • 4 c flour, sifted
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 3/4 c buttermilk

Sauce/Glaze Topping (optional) - I don't make mine with the glaze

  • 1 tsp grated lemon & orange peel
  • 1/4 c orange and lemon juice (combined to make 1/4 cup)
  • 1/2 c sugar

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 300 degrees F
  • Add all ingredients together for the cake in a large mixing bowl
  • Pour into a greased 10" tube pan or two loaf pans
  • Bake for 2 1/2 hours or until a toothpick comes out clean in the center of the cake
  • Let cook, remove from pans and serve!
