My 8 year old daughter who blogs over at Sparkle Bunny Cotton Tails wanted to buy a bulletin board to hang in her room so she could hang pictures of her friends and her up on. Since she’s getting older and becoming more concerned about having her “own space” and personality show in her room I thought this was a great idea! (especially since I’m partial to her beautiful purple and white Pottery Barn inspired bedroom that I beyond love and can’t bring myself to change).
I am so proud of her for completing this DIY Fabric Covered Bulletin Board project ALL by herself with me just there to take the pictures!

We began by pricing out bulletin boards. The best price for a 23 x 36 bulletin board was Amazon. You can purchase one HERE.
I let her go through my fabric stash and LOVE that she picked out a beautiful fabric that color matches her room 🙂
Start by ironing your fabric of choice, using starch if needed to get rid of the wrinkles/fold lines
Cut the fabric 2″ from all sides of the bulletin board
Lay the fabric on top of the bulletin board
Using a “hinge method” fold one side of the fabric back revealing the bulletin board
Use spray glue and lightly spray the board. Lay your fabric back over the board. Repeat on the other side.
Using a credit card smooth out the fabric removing all air bubbles – press lightly so it doesn’t move the fabric
Beginning in one corner, attach your thumb tack of choice
Use a spacer to evenly place your thumb tacks – she used a wooden block
Our thumb tacks were so long that they came through on the other side
So we cut the shipping box to the correct dimensions of the bulletin board and…
She attached the cardboard backing to cover the thumb tacks
Fold the fabric over the edges and staple down
To cover the corners, fold the fabric in the middle like shown, fold over the top edge and staple. Then fold up the bottom edge and staple in place
Isn’t it beautiful?!?! I love it and she loves it and had so much fun filling it with pictures!!
She would love it if you would stop by Sparkle Bunny Cotton Tails and check out her blog!
