A-Z Blogging Challenge – C: Cleaners
We ALL use cleaners, regardless if we have kids or not. We use them to clean our clothes, our dishes, our counters, our bathrooms, our windows, our floors, our cars, even our grills – you name it – there’s a cleaner for just about everything you can imagine.
I, like most people, have bought store brand cleaners, although I do this very sparingly. For over 8 years now I have been using safe, non-toxic cleaners as well as making several of my own cleaners:
Lover Boy and I originally made the switch back when we were in college – we didn’t have kids, but we had dogs and we wanted them to be safe around the cleaners we were using…as well as us. Then once we had kids we really were focused on making sure we were raising them in a home that was clean yet the least toxic we could make it. (I will admit now, I’m guilty of burning my favorite sugar cookie and apple pie candles around the holidays).
Since then, I’ve learned so much more about the importance of using safe cleaners. I’m pretty sure you will be amazed by the consequences regular cleaners can cause.
Did you know that chemicals have been linked to:
Asthma – Allergies – Sneezing – Coughing – Sinus drainage – Unexplained rash – Itchy skin – Migraines – Behavior Disturbances
Tens of thousands of chemicals are placed in products, and released to the environment, with very little if any information on the possible consequences for human health.
The government gives little oversight. Currently there are no legal requirements for ingredient labeling on household cleaning products. As such, we have very limited access to information about which products contain chemicals ingredients we may want to avoid. (source) View THIS LIST to see if the chemicals in your cleaners are linked to allergies, asthma, cancer and many more ailments.
Search the Household Products Database to check your cleaners and find out the ingredients in them.
