I am nesting big time over here! I have 3 weeks until my due date and just can’t stop building stuff, organizing stuff, sewing/embroidering stuff…I’m a mess!!! Now I just need to get the “clean up your crap” nesting urge!
Anyway, the kid’s have a linen closet outside of their bathroom and although it is organized and everything is in bins (I have a reallllly bad obsession with bins, storage containers, etc) I decided that I wanted to create a hanging door organizer for medicine. I did not have any written plans or pictures to go off of. All I had was scrap wood and my imagination!
I cut and assembled everything in less than an hour!
-One or Two 1x4x8 (depending on the size of your door and how large you plan on making the shelf)
-Self Drilling 1 1/4 Kreg Screws
-1 1/2″ Brad Nails
-Self anchoring screws OR Hollow Door Anchoring Screws
Side Rails = vertical with the 1″ side touching the actual door
Shelves = horizontal expanding the width (4″) of the side rails
Guards = horizontal with 2″ facing out flush with shelf
-Attach shelves to side rail with Kreg Jig and Kreg Self Drilling Screws
-Attach guards to side rails using Nail Gun and 1 1/2″ Brad Nails
*(distance of shelves and guards is subject to the size of your door) (I placed my top shelves a different distance apart than the bottom ones because I wanted to put larger bottles of adult medicines at the top …furthest from the kiddos reach)
-Using Drill Bits (larger than the head of the Self Anchoring Screws) create a hole in each side of the 1x4s that will touch the door
-Using Drill Bits pre drill holes in the door for the Self Anchoring Screws
-Screw in Self Anchoring Screws and hang organizer on the screws
Load it up with whatever you would like!
Happy Building! p.s. I’ll be back tomorrow sharing my tutorial on a built-in bookcase my hubby and I built using my Kreg!!
