One of the benefits of purchasing my sewing/embroidery machine from a dealer is that I get sewing classes!!! Some of which are free and then some that you have to pay for. Since buying my new machine after Thanksgiving I haven’t had the chance to go to my introductory class to teach me about the machine…it’s all been a learn-as-I-go process so far. However, Saturday I was finally able to attend and am I glad I did! I learned that I really know nothing about sewing. Well, OK not that extreme, just about the billion functions/shortcuts my machine has, etc.
Anyway, I really wanted to try appliqueing. I did that Valentine’s Day shirt for Little Finch, but it wasn’t a proper applique. I had just stitched out a design over fabric…and then had to cut the excess. Not quite right! 🙂
So Sunday I decided to try to my hand at it again. I created the designs in my software program and then got busy stitching it out. (I pulled the original designs from BunnyCup.com and then modified them to suit my needs).
Here I am in the process. I used my extra large hoop to create this 16×16 pillow cover.
If you are in the business of buying an embroidery machine, I would hands down recommend a Pfaff. You cannot buy them at JoAnns, Hancock Fabrics, etc. You can only purchase them through a dealer. They are realllly expensive, but totally worth the cost if you plan on doing some serious embroidery/sewing. I have loved every minute with mine so far (before purchasing this, I had/have a Singer Sewing machine…and I will never go back. We’ll just compare it to a Mac vs PC.) 🙂 (I’m die hard Mac!)
5 easter eggs (one for each of us…I would have done initials, but since we chose not to find out what baby #3 is I couldn’t do that!) Then I gathered tulle and sewed it onto the bottom for grass! (Ever since creating my Personalized TuTu Ballet Tote Bags I’ve really been intrigued with using tulle in my projects!!)
I placed it on my foyer shoe bench! Love it!
In the upcoming weeks I will be working on creating some applique tutorials…even if you don’t have an embroidery machine, you will be able to do them!! 🙂
