Pumpkin Themed Birthday Party

As some of you may know, Little Finch recently turned 3 years old. This weekend we celebrated her birthday with several of her friends. These are the little snacks I served the bunch!

Little Witch’s Hats – Chocolate bottom cookies “glued” (piped icing) on to a Hersey Kiss and a piped orange bow

Acorn Candy – Mini Vanilla Wafer cookies “glued” (piped icing) on to a Hersey Kiss with a “glued” on broken pretzel stem

Candy Corn Stuck in Spider Web - Square pretzel, Hersey Hugs & Candy corn. Place Hugs onto pretzel, bake at 350º for 3 minutes. Take out of oven and top with candy corn – pressing slightly.  (Sorry the picture is so horrible! Apparently I forgot to take pictures of these at the party but thankfully had texted a picture to my family!)

Hay Bale Cake – Rather than having a cake or cupcakes I decided to make Rice Crispie treats and color and shape them like pumpkins. I used Tootsie Rolls for the stems. I put them on sticks (popsicle sticks would have worked best but I pulled a last minute wooden skewer hunt so this was the best that I came up with) and stuck them into the hay bale. Added a little flair and wah la! They worked out great for many reasons; 1. you didn’t need a plate 2. WAY less messy than cake or cupcakes 3. eh, I can’t think of any others so I’ll go with it’s a cute alternative to the boring ol’ birthday cake! ;-) (The hay bale idea came from one of my fav blogs)

All of these snacks would be perfect for a Halloween Party as well. The kids loved the fun creations! Little Finch’s favorite were the Witch’s Hats…she just ate the Kisses! ;-)

Tomorrow I’ll post a few more handmade highlights from the party! *Update* Click HERE for the handmade highlights!
